While mainstream media hasn't picked up a bit of news regarding a Protest of Truckers and Veterans in DC this weekend, I have been following the scene all weekend.
First I must say that I am so proud of every person who put country first this weekend. We need a smaller less intrusive federal government. And we need the power returned to the states. The trucks showed up and the vets showed up. SO excited to see where we go from here. This is the beginning of something much bigger. Of this I am certain.
Our country has been heading toward its tipping point for years now. Shutting down our land during the government shutdown and denying military death benefits were the last straws. "By the People, For the People" Our current representation is far from this. The government is trying to take over and I am tired of it. Go Vets! Go Truckers!
The ups and downs of one large, blended family. Discussions about the newest trends from clothing to baby items to safety of our children. As well as discussions regarding ADHD, ODD, Autism, and many other childhood issues as well.

Midwest Heat Wave After School Starts
While the heat swelters in late August, the kiddos itch to get out of the school buildings. Only a couple, of the dozen or so, school buildings in the Waverly-Shell Rock district have central air conditioning. This means that on these extended heat stretches, the children are being let out early. Each
day they have been released after lunch so it counts as a full day. But
being released two hours early each day makes staying on track with
lesson books could be a challenge.
I am beginning to wonder how much of an effect this past week of early outs will have on the remainder of the school year. The elementary children will fare better in this situation, however; all the students will have challenges. The high school students will have extra homework for a good while in order to catch up. My concern lies in the lack of time spent on topics during these early outs.
Will there be time in the schedule to take the proper time on each topic? Or should the students have to endure the sweltering heat all day in order to keep on track?

Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook's Bodies Found in Rural Bremer County, Iowa
In December 2012, just shy of 5 months since they had gone missing, Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins bodies were found. There bodies were discovered by hunters, in a creek bed, at a rural park in Bremer County, not 30 minutes from where they had last been seen.
While we are thankful that these girls may be laid to rest peacefully, it is not the resolution anyone had been praying for. As a parent, the realization that there is a predator out there has been gut wrenching. It makes us all grab out kids a little tighter and maybe say 'No' a bit more freely.
As of the first of the year, the Evansdale Sheriff's department nor the FBI have released any suspect's names.
